Like many of Birgit Cullberg’s works Dialog, set to Sven-Erik Bäcks String Quartet No. 3, revolves around communication between a man and a woman. The work, considered incomplete at the time it was premiered, depicted a marital crisis. With themes of illness running throughout, the work evoked a couple with extreme difficulties communicating. A woman, the sacrificial character, and a man who eventually succumbs to mania.
