The piece depicts multiple generations of a family, shifting with each section of Vivaldi’s famous Four Seasons music from the newborn as spring, a young girl as summer, a father as autumn and a grandmother as winter.
The work was called The Four Seasons at the time of its premiere. It was later changed to The Four Ages in 1979.
