Seven Dancers explores the intersection between European and North American modes of classical and modern dance. Just as a clown may inwardly long to play Hamlet, so too might a modern trained dancer long to dance the traditional classical repertoire, or a classically trained dancer yearn to try something modern. The piece, which takes place in a dance studio before the start of a rehearsal, is neither earnest nor ironic. Rather, it is simply the dancers’ play with and juxtaposition of different forms and expressions of dance techniques.
