Out in context: Marabouparken

“A visual concert utilizing the body as an instrument.”
Tilman O’Donnell

As the name suggests, Out In Context was a performance series initiated by then director of the Cullberg Ballet Anna Grip, attempting to reframe choreographic and performance practices.

This iteration was choreographed by Tilman O’Donnell. Inspired by the book How To Do Things With Art, by Dorothea von Hantelmann, O’Donnell explored how duration, sound, spatial dissonance, and choreographic harmony might create a new means to see movement.

Staged in different temporary rooms within the gallery, fragments of a previous exhibition, the performers moved through a repeating score throughout the opening hours of the museum.

The work featured a guest appearance by a large brown bear.A site-specific work by the Cullberg Ballet at Marabouparken Konsthall

Cullberg Ballet’s Out In Context

Out In Context is Cullberg Ballet’s site-specific project that takes parts of the company’s operations out of its usual context to other spaces than the traditional ones. The choreography is based on the locations unique composition, architecture, history and environment and is created by discovering and examining its hidden meanings. Out In Context seeks to challenge artists and audiences to extend an invitation to share impressions and expressions.
